Compass Rose at the Santa Monica Airport Landmark Nomination, Santa Monica, California
In 2019, I prepared the Landmark Nomination for the Compass Rose at the Santa Monica Airport, a painted air marking adjacent to the runway. The Compass Rose is the symbol of the Ninety-Nines International Association of Women Pilots. The Ninety-Nines were founded by Amelia Earhart and others following the first Women’s Air Derby that took off from Santa Monica Airport in 1929. In collaboration with the Los Angeles chapter of the Ninety-Nines, we successfully advocated for its designation. Read the nomination here and view the supplemental here.

Carousel Park Landmark Nomination, Santa Monica, California
In 2018, I prepared the Landmark Nomination for Carousel Park, a Postmodern cultural landscape in Santa Monica. For this nomination, I helped coordinate a successful collaboration of our firm with the Santa Monica Conservancy and the Cultural Landscape Foundation. In addition to researching and writing the nomination, I also coordinated advocacy efforts that resulted in its’ successful designation which protected it from its impending demolition threat through the Pier Bridge Replacement project.
